Urus-Central Peru

Urus 5,495m
Peru-Cordillera Blanca

Urus was the first of three mountains we climbed in the the Ishinca Valley of Peru. The Mountain range is called the Cordillera Blanca. This is the highest range in the world outside of the Himalaya. Urus was meant to be an acclimatization climb to prepare us for the a mountain we were climbing later in the week. We awoke a 1am for a 2am departure, spent 6 hours ascending and made it to the summit just after sunrise. No real technical challenge or difficultly with the altitude.

The Summit had a nice knife ridge and great views of the surrounding valley. We desended the same route we climbed and went to sleep early to prep for the mountain we would climb in the morning. It was about this time that the stomach bug kicked in....
